It's our 9th Anniversary!

How is it possible that I've been in business for 9 years already!?!

It's been a ride! It all started in the spare room of our trailer. I set up a cute treatment room focusing on skin treatments, waxing, make-up and hair. I received my opening order of dermalogica in May 2017. Then in July 2017 we were evacuated for 3 weeks because of wild fires. I packed up every bottle and toted it to safety with us. We had no idea what we could be coming home to. Luckily our home was spared just a lot of ash everywhere!

My company was still called Kristen Foote Make-up and Hair, how I had operated for the previous 5 years in Toronto and Vancouver. It was working ok until I started doing a lot more skin, adding tinting and other body services. During Covid no one was performing personal care services so I had a lot of time to rebrand and Blackwood Beauty Studio came to be. Shortly after we moved into our bigger house and BBS got a big upgrade to 2 rooms! It continued to grow, adding in contractors, more product lines and more services. After awhile it got to be a lot working at home alone all of the time so it was time for a change!

Enter 160B Oliver St. The building needed a full make-over, luckily my husband and I are pretty good at that. The keys were in our hands on March 15th and we got to work demolishing decades of paint, flooring, electrical and gyprock. By June 14th we were open and ready for Grad! The team has changed a lot in this time but what's always stayed the same is the fantastic clients that keep supporting us and allowing me to keep growing and dreaming. This is also why taking a moment to celebrate and say thank you is so important. Please join us on May 14th for a evening to celebrate 9 years of hard work, great clients and my amazing staff.
