What you need to know about curling your lashes

. I've seen a lot of people who are damaging their lashes with their lash curler, here are some handy tips to protect your lashes!

Long, lifted lashes can make your eyes appear more open, awake, and youthful. Whether you're looking for a temporary boost or a low-maintenance solution that lasts for weeks, there are several ways to curl your lashes. Let's talk about the most popular options and help you decide which method is right for you.

Eyelash Curlers

The classic eyelash curler is one of the quickest and most affordable ways to create a temporary curl.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive

  • Easy to use

  • Instant results

  • Works well before mascara application

Cons:

  • Results only last for the day

  • Can damage lashes if used improperly

  • Requires daily use

  • Possibility of pinching delicate eye skin

For best results:

  • Use a clean lash curler

  • Always curl before applying mascara

  • Never curl your lashes after mascara has dried, as this can cause breakage or can pull lashes out

  • Curl lashes from root to tips with little presses of the curler as you go. One strong press at the base will create a less flatting L shaped curl

Heated Lash Curlers

Heated lash curlers work similarly to a curling iron for your hair, using gentle heat to help shape and hold the curl.

Pros:

  • Longer-lasting curl than traditional curlers

  • Gentle on lashes when used correctly

  • Great for straight or stubborn lashes

Cons:

  • Requires batteries or charging

  • Results are still temporary

  • Takes a little more time than a traditional curler

Many clients find heated curlers especially helpful when combined with mascara.

Curling Mascaras

Some mascaras are specifically formulated with curved brush, designed to lift and hold lashes. This would be my least favourite option, only works well for lashes that already have a bit of a natural curl to them.

Pros:

  • Easy to incorporate into your daily routine

  • Adds length, volume, and curl

  • No additional tools required

Cons:

  • Temporary results

  • Can smudge or flake

  • Must be removed daily

While curling mascaras can enhance your lashes, they won't create the same dramatic lift as professional treatments

Lash Lift and Tint

A lash lift is a professional treatment that curls your natural lashes from the root, creating the appearance of longer, lifted lashes without extensions.

During the treatment, your lashes are carefully shaped around a silicone shield and processed with professional solutions to create a beautiful curl.

For the ultimate low-maintenance beauty routine, many clients combine a lash lift with a tint.

The tint darkens the lashes while the lift curls them, creating a mascara-like effect without daily makeup.

Pros:

  • Wake up with lifted, darker lashes

  • Eliminates the need for mascara for many clients

  • Results last 4-12 weeks - depending on your lashes cycle, the brand and the service provider

  • Great for vacations and busy schedules

  • No daily curling required

  • Makes natural lashes appear longer

  • Waterproof and low maintenance

  • Perfect for active lifestyles

Cons:

  • Requires maintenance every couple of months (is this really a con?)

  • Tint gradually fades over time

  • Requires professional application (We do not recommend you DIY this)

  • Not suitable for everyone

  • Inexperienced tech's can over process lashes causing damage

A lash lift is ideal for clients with straight, downward-pointing, or difficult-to-curl lashes. We do recommend coming in for a lash lift refresh between lifts to help nourish your lashes. We also recommend home care, similar to dying your hair blonde and needing some extra conditioner.

Lash Extensions

While lash extensions don't technically curl your natural lashes, they can be customized with different curl patterns to create the appearance of permanently curled lashes.

Pros:

  • Dramatic results

  • Completely customizable

  • No mascara required

Cons:

  • Requires fills every 2-3 weeks

  • Higher maintenance

  • More expensive over time

So what should you do?

If you're looking for a quick, temporary solution, an eyelash curler or heated curler may be all you need.

If you're tired of curling your lashes every morning and want a low-maintenance beauty routine, a professional lash lift is often the best investment. It enhances your natural lashes, lasts for weeks to months, and allows you to wake up looking refreshed every day.

Whether you choose an at-home method or a professional treatment, properly caring for your lashes will help keep them healthy, strong, and beautiful.
